The management of project progress is an all-important part in the project management. And because the progress control involves the application for progress fund of the project, both the owner and the contractor take much count of it. Nevertheless, a lot of disputes in projects are still caused by the progress, and the matters disputed mainly focus on the cognizance of time limit and the schedule. At present, people control actual progress curves according to the anticipating ones, and they are considered laggard if the actual ones are below. However, in this traditional way, the anticipating curves differ a lot due to the planners' experience, the syndics' concept, and moreover, the actual curves change because of factors like weather, terrain and construction ways. How much lag could be regarded as an effective lag? The answer depends entirely on the syndics' subject view. Many companies use budget implement rate to denote the execution of budget and to reflect the progress of the project. As a result, it is of great importance for the projects' scheduled and high-qualified accomplishment to research on the reasonable progress range and the relationship between the budget implement rate and the progress of projects. In the execution of projects, the owners' budget implement rate is different from the actual project progress in time. While the owner is assessing the project progress, the project is on execution, so the estimate progress could not reflect the actual progress. Besides, the connatural projects may be disturbed by kinds of factors from force majeure, owners or contractors. In order to solve out a reasonable project progress range, this article collect 12 similar project cases to draw and analyzes banana-curves diagrams of this kind, so that we could get a better way to appraise projects using banana-curves.There are many kinds of method to appraise the project progress, this article mainly aims at the architecture projects schedule, and discusses the reasonable range of normal project progress. Those below are the conclusions of this article:1. The lag range of progress relates to the stages of projects. From this research, we could see that the time lag of progress has relation with whether this project being on the construction stage or not. The facultative lag range is small in the initial stages and final stages, but the middle stage could tolerate more range. However, the progress should in the range of banana-curves and the appraisement of the progress lag should consider the stage of the projects.2. The appraisement according to anticipating progress is very subjective and could not reflect whether the projects lag or not compared to similar projects. The project quantity evaluation progress is always affected by the financing of the construction project and the evaluation method, so the actual progress differs from the project quantity evaluation progress in time. Difference exists among the project quantity evaluation progress, the actual progress and the scheduled progress.3. The budget implementation rate belongs to the result appraisement afterwards, and the time difference exists from the contractors' project quantity evaluation to the owners' payment of progress fund. All of these have effect on the authenticity of the project progress appraisement, so we should take them into account when appraising.4. If the actual progress is above the up boundary of banana - curves in that kind of project, probably the contractor would finished the project ahead of time.5. The anticipating progress and actual progress should be appraised in a reasonable range. The anticipating progress should be controlled between the boundaries of average the banana-curves of this project type, without setting too optimistic or too pessimistic anticipate. Actual progress should also be controlled between the boundaries of the banana-curves, and if the progress is outside the reasonable range, it should be considered an abnormal progress, and needed discussing or improving.
