Nowadays, the world changed quickly owing to technical progress and fierce competition. CEO(Chief Executive Officer)of some MNC(Multinational corporation) were turnover frequently, and the presidencies of them became shorter and shorter. In china, many corporations joined in the turnover of top management. So academics were offered some materials for researching. After several generations had worked hard for many years, a plenty of empirical findings were cumulated. The foreign and domestic research about succession of top management succession was concentrated on the following aspects: the cause of top management succession, the relationship between corporation performance and top management succession, the economic consequences of it, the relationship between corporate governance and it, and so on.The selection mode of top management is an important part, especially the evaluation of candidates. Firstly, the selection flowchart of top management candidates was elicited through using rich literatures and prior production, which was based on the hypothesis that there was a perfect competition in manager markets. The flowchart showed that the selection mode could feed back information of the process at any moment, then the evaluation indexes and succession plans were being corrected constantly until they were satisfying. The most important step of the selection mode was how to select and use the evaluation indexes. Secondly, combining prior research of competency with implication system of the Extenics, a universal competencies model of top management were built and regarded as the evaluation indexes. The competencies mode consisted of three dimensions: managerial skills, personal traits and interpersonal relationship. Moreover, managerial skills included four sub-dimensions: team leadership, decision making, information seeking and market orientation; personal traits include six sub-dimensions: influence, self-confidence, achievement orientation, initiative, analytical and conceptual thinking; interpersonal relationship included five sub-dimensions: interpersonal understanding, staff development, relation management, society conscientiousness and team cooperation. Finally, using the correlation function of the Extenics, competencies were graded according to the correlation between competencies and grades. Evaluation of the candidates was worked out with the extension method. So corporations could use the method to select the most excellent top management. And the method was applied primly in a company, the effect of which was uncertain. The result and finding in this research can be applied to the selection and succession of top management. Finally, some preliminary policy suggestions are given.
