This thesis, through explaining and defining some basic concepts such as security and security cooperation, and by clarifying the five basic aspects of security cooperation, i.e., conditions, forms, aims, principles and approaches, sets up an ideal model of bilateral security cooperation. In this ideal model, the core variable is security interests. All the five aspects center on the conflict and consistence of security interests. And the ideal pursuit of this model is to realize respective and common needs of security interests, and to reach a state of mutual understanding and concession, common gain and prosperity through mutual policy adjustment. Using this ideal model, the thesis analyzes in comparison the current situation of Sino-American security cooperation after the cold war. The relations of security interests between China and the United States are very complicated. Though they have more and more common interests and more possibilities of cooperation, they still have some fundamental discrepancies that cannot be eliminated at present. The Sino-American security cooperation is just in its beginning stage, with stern challenges and great opportunities ahead. To help Sino-American security cooperation develop towards the ideal model, this thesis puts forward some related policy propositions.
