It is an important period that overseas Chinese distributed Southeast Asia extensively from 16tH to the Opium War. Overseas Chinese not only played a great contribution to the countries they lived, but also acted as the messenger and bridge of the economic and cultural communication between China and Southeast Asia. It is a question worthy of great attention. The paper probes into it in three chapters. Chapter one analyses the cause of the rise of the emigration boom and concludes the character of overseas Chinese of the period .The unique historical background afforded chances and challenges to the survival and development of overseas Chinese. Chapter two and three discusses that overseas Chinese gave full play to their superiority, combining the local peculiarity, from economic and cultural layers and the impact of China on Southeast Asia and the impact of Southeast Asia on China angels. They were principal carriers of the economic and cultural communication. They played an important role of tie and bridge, and advanced the development of the relationship between China and Southeast Asia.
