Texts can be literary one or non-literary ones. Thus, translation can also be divided into two types by the original texts, which are literary translation and non-literary translation. In this thesis, the main type of translation discussed is non-literary translation. What is more is that non-literary texts can also be categorized into several types according to content and typology. From the aspect of content, there are several kinds:technical texts, financial texts, political texts, legal texts. Based on Reiss's Text Typology theory, text can be informative, expressive and operative/persuasive. Due to the different types of texts and their different functions, it is possible for translators to figure out translating strategies for different texts. The strategy, to a certain degree, decides the minor part or micro level of translating texts. Therefore, to different types of texts, the research for translating them can be quite helpful and useful. In this essay, three types of texts are mainly discussed:technical texts, legal texts and political texts. In different types, the essay takes translations of some typical texts as examples to study the text characteristics, difficulties in translating and translating strategies for certain type. Before translation, translators should first understand the text typology of text, that is, informative, expressive or operative; translators should also know the degree of texts'formality, the frequency of using rhetorical methods, and whether the text has a very high register or not, whom the target readers will be. Based on analyzing these elements, translators can know the translation strategy for each type of texts. In translating technical texts, translators should closely stick to original text, focusing on transmitting information. For political texts, the author pays more attention to the persuasive effect of text. Therefore, translators need to firstly have a general idea about the author's standing point, and then use the same tone to translate the texts like a spokesman of the author. In translating legal texts which are of high register, translators need to have a good understanding of the relative legal system and the language. Based on this, translators can translate them faithfully.
