The wall mural design,which is full of creativity and visual impact,is a painting art for home decoration.It is essential for the artists to design aesthetic patterns for each room to guarantee its originality and artistry,whereas sometimes designing inspiration is limited,so there is great need for a computer aided approach to invoke designers' creating inspiration.This thesis probes into the fields of computer aided design and evolutionary art,and the main research is about how to enable computers to generate aesthetic wall mural artworks.Evolutionary art is a significant branch of evolutionary computation,which uses evolutionary algorithms to evolve images or aesthetically pleasing structures. The main difference between evolutionary art and other algorithms is that the fitness of an artwork is evaluated by designers according to its artistic quality,since it is very hard to describe with unique criterion.This thesis is mainly divided into three parts:1.A wall mural pattern generation algorithm with evolutionary art is presented and a better manual evaluation system is delineated by experiment.The innovation of this part is:A hierarchically structured genotype is described to represent the nesting patterns to solve the shortcoming of simplex cycloid pattern.An improved mutation operator with dynamic mutation rate and gene lock is proposed to direct the evolution and increase evolving speed.A sub-pattern swap strategy is applied to avoid rejecting the lower rated patterns in which some of sub-patterns are aesthetic.2.Fractal theory is introduced to configure these patterns created before on the basis of two distinct methods—Pythagoras Tree design and Curlicue Fractal design.Due to its self similarity and deep iteration,these patterns can be configured aesthetically.3.A wall mural pattern design system named Paint Designer is implemented,which is developed with VC++.net and GDI+.The function of each module is described,along with some artworks designed in this system shown in the end.The wall mural pattern evolved above can keep its diversity and originality,and the final artwork designed by fractal configuration is more lively and artistic.In principle,by initializing the population randomly,designers are able to evolve nice patterns that meet the demand within 20 generations,and then configure them conveniently.All the test results indicate that designers can be inspired easily to create more valuable artworks with the help of computer.
