| After the Second World War, France attempted reestablish the colony in Indochina. However, the French colonists met the resistance movement which was organized by the nationalists in Indochina. Among the nationalist groups, the VietMinh, which was leaded by Ho Chi Minh, was the most powerful organisation. Because the negotiation between the VietMinh and France failed, the first Indochina war happened in 1946.At first, neither two sides got the aid from outside, but the situation of the first Indochina war had an important change in 1949, because the People's Republic of China began give the recognition and assistance to Vletminh. The West took the reaction at once. The United States recognized the Bao Dai regime as well as give France the large assistance. The colonist war was also deeply affected by the Korea War, one of the famous hot wars in Cold War. Under the tense atmosphere in Asia, Indochina became the other conflict between two camps, especially for the Red China and America. On the basis of the anti-communism strategy in the Far East, the American government regarded Indochina as a keystone for the defense of the Southeast Asia. They worried about the expansion of the Chinese communism, which was reflected in both the Korea battle and the Indochina battle. Therefore, they offered the increasing additional assistance to France. On the other side, the Communist China sent a lot of assistance to the VietMinh due to their emotion of the proletarian internationalism. They sent a militant advisor group to Vietnam and trained some VietMinh battalions, through which they spreaded the experience of the Chinese revolution. The Chinese influence into Indochina reinforced the characteristics of communism in the VietMinh. Therefore, in fact, two camps not only competed for the territory but also testified whose social system was better for the new state. In 1953, because of the change in Soviet foreign policy and the truce of the Korea War, the detente appeared in Asia, which lead to have an opportunity to solve the Indochinese problem by negotiation. Finally, two sides achieved the truce agreement in the Geneva conference. Vietnam was divided into two states when Southeast Asia Treaty Organisation was organized by America. These two things resulted in the partitions in the Far East and the American anti-communism defensive sphere aimed at the Red China shaped. In conclusion, the researchful meaning of this thesis consists in emphasizing the influence of the Cold War in Asia on a colonist war. Because of the contest between two camps, a small country who fight for its independence and freedom had to be divided and decide to lean to one of the two sides. Moreover, the confrontation of the two camps resulted in Vietnam's loss of the dominant right in the Geneva conference and its national disruption. In addition, this thesis also point out the significance of the New China in the Cold War in Asia. What's more, through comparing the China's aid to Vietnam with the America's aid to France, we can find some difference between the two approaches to cooperation. |
