Tim Burton is an offbeat player in Hollywood film world. He wanders around genre world with a quite different art character. The aim of this paper is to research director style, and it discusses his movie character by analyzing his genre films which he lives in and where he grows up, finding his trace as a film author.Auteurs now still exist in Hollywood genre film world. Genre film model provides necessary theoretical and technical support for Tim Burton and his artistic style, and makes a stage for him to show his talent. With respect to both market and genre film system, Tim Burton has developed those artistic styles and performance techniques which he evokes to a top level, and he makes his place in Hollywood genre film kingdom by his unique theme, personal character and visual/audile style. Tim Burton's success originated from a perfect combination of genre film model and his personal artistic style. This paper looks for contact between Tim Burton's personal artistic style and genre film model, and classifies genre part and personal part in his film texts. The analysis is based on Hollywood genre film theory and from three aspects including plots, role and visual/audile style. The result of this paper could tell movie directors how to consist one's own artistic style in a commercial while making a good-selling film.
