This dissertation aims at presenting a variety of"LuXun phenomenon"in Yan'an Period and exploring the historical reasons to account for them, and thus comes up with an objective conclusion on the advantages and disadvantages of Yan'an interpretation on LuXun from the material view of history. On October 19, 1936, Lu Xun passed away in Shanghai. On October 22nd, the Communist Party sent out three condolence telegrams in which it stated clearly its opinion and stand of the death of Lu Xun; that is, to see Lu Xun as the colleague of the Communist Party. Through this act, the Communist Party projected itself as a broad-minded party that was committed to the course of national independence and liberation. Since then—after his death, Lu Xun"started"his political journey, which was led by the Communist Party far in the northwest of China, rather than the governing party—the National Party. Gradually, under the promotion of the Communist Party which was based in Yan'an, Lu Xun's concept was taken as the leading ideology in the literature circle. It was such ideology that attracted a mass of talented literary workers who tremendously advanced the course of Chinese revolution. In that particular period, the literati were given much weight politically, and the political value of Lu Xun was also finalized, i.e. the complexity of his literature and mentality was largely simplified. Though the transformation from multi-interpretation to sole-interpretation of Lu Xun is evidently shown, it will be a lot more enlightening when one is able to see through the complication of historical backdrops. It is recoded that the finalization of Lu Xun's political value has gone through numerous obstacles and was even at the cost of lives. One can hardly feel at ease when barely exposed in front of the sophistication and political tricks that the history remembered. The commemoration of Lu Xun's death experienced up and downs, but it was always penetrated by a political atmosphere. In a series of commemoration activities, Lu Xun was proved to be a communist and support the opinions of the Communist Party in his latter literary creation. Additionally, it was said that his ideology was also guided by the Communist Party. Indeed, this new discovery and claim was a signal for other literati in Yan'an that to follow the Communist Party was their fate. Therefore, by means of Lu Xun, the Communist Party gained more and more recognition by a huge number of literati, which greatly promoted Lu Xun and extended the influence of the Communist Party while at the same time, damaged the image of Lu Xun.Chairman Mao's comment on Lu Xun stood out among all researches as a result of his high level of integration. In the mean time, his personal authority in the Communist Party and his great political foresight also reinforced the supreme status of Lu Xun. However, as a political leader, Chairman Mao only interpreted the existence of Lu Xun from the perspective of politics, which meant that he only considered Lu Xun as a political resource of great potential and included him as part of his political strategy. In order to solve the political conflicts, Chairman Mao gave an abstract summary of different comments on Lu Xun and thus eliminated the disagreements within the party. In fact, he totally understood the connotation of Lu Xun's literature and deliberately interpreted in a different way to fit in his political needs. In Yan'an Period, despite of all the hardship and difficulties, Lu Xun's literary works were considerably disseminated in such a variety of forms as complete edition, research edition, offprint, adaptation and performance. The publication of Lu Xun's works met the needs of people from all walks of life, ranging from intellectuals to the common public. Though not all of his works were published, the publication covered his principle creation, which, given the specific historical background, was a huge contribution to the publicity of Lu Xun's works. The research on Lu Xun in Yan'an was not as desirable as planned, and it led to limited achievements. As known, the research on Lu Xun in Yan'an was closely linked to the political contradiction. Though some rational elements were involved in the research, it remained weak under the circumstance of intense political fight. The"research on Lu Xun"initiated by Xiao Jun played a significant part at that time; other discussion on Lu Xun led by other literati were also commendableLu Xun's influence on the literary creation in Yan'an Period was not as significant as imagined. Apparently, we might think that a great many of literary works related with Lu Xun spirit were produced at that time, for many a favorable comments on Lu Xun could be heard then. However, it turned out the other way round. Much said but little done. But this did not mean that there was nothing worth mentioning. Certain literary works such as essays with Lu Xun style and a series of other works that exposed the dark side of the society was like a shooting star; they disappeared as quickly as they came. Before the rectification movement, intellectuals intended to resume their own understanding of Lu Xun spirit but only resulted in a serious rectification. Afterwards, intellectuals tended to follow suit and there would be no more disagreement concerning Lu Xun's literary creation ever since.
