A Study Of College Students' Self-rationalization Mechanism For Internet Addiction

The society is paying much attention to the Internet addiction of college students, many researches were done from different kinds of fields. Although Internet addiction caused certain negative effects to their daily life and study, there are still, to some extent, some positive impacts. This selected topic is from the standpoint of individual person to explore more reasons for the addition based on the reasons explained by the college students, and then propose some constructive points to guide them using the Internet reasonably so as to weaken or eliminate the Internet addiction. This article adopted quality analyzing method to study, that is having a deeply talk to 10 college students, then sort out all the topics by order, lastly did the research by using generic analysis method.Through an analysis of relevant literature, we use Taiwan scholars Qian Zhou's definition of Internet Addiction, that "As the repeated use of the network caused by a chronic or recurrent fascination with state and bring an irresistible desire to re-use. At the same time will have to use the time you want to increase tension and tolerance, restraint, withdrawal phenomena such as addiction, for the pleasure brought by the Internet will always be a psychological and physiological dependence."During the analyzing process, We found that college students who addict to Internet has self- rationalization mechanism, like habituation mechanism, convenient mechanism, compensation mechanism, venting system, happiness mechanism and freedom of expression mechanism. College students think habituation mechanism is the life of the network as an integral part after sensory stimulation and spiritual joy from the internet, the online behavior and the spirit of the chain can not be separated .Convenient mechanism makes college students get a variety of information and easily understand the outside world. Compensation mechanism can make the Internet addiction of college students reinvent themselves and gain self-confidence and sense of accomplishment. Venting mechanism can make them vent negative emotions. Happiness mechanism can make them feel happy from internet and feel life is meaningful .Freedom of expression mechanism make them look network as a platform for them to express their views freely. Self-rationalization has certain rationality, but also has some shortcomings. We should guide them to realize recognize the irrationality of the Internet, use the internet correctly and return to the real world.
