Bronze piece-mould casting technology is progressing gradually in the development of bronze production and changes, bronze mirror is important branch as the bronze, their casting technology runs through the bronze age, but also becomes more prosperous in the iron age. Piece-mould casting technology of bronze ritual and practical are studying largely by scholars. However, it is few work in bronze mirror casting process, and scholars do not simulation experiment in bronze mirror casting for studying.According to artifacts excavated, combined with the then Western Han society and technological level, making use of a compasses design technology, experiment start from scratch, simulation molding gradually Western Han nebulae mirror by casting, moulding, pouring and polishing. The using of compasses for bronze mirror making, reflects relation between casting coin and mirror then, illuminates that it is tightly to the devolopment of mirrors and its era. The simulation experiment will give some useful inspirations in bronze mirror casting study. In addition, in the late bronze mirror surface grinding, for whether to use tin amalgam of the process are also big differences. Someone through the comparison of gilded bronze technology, raised evidence that bronze surface had Hg or not for whether using Tin amalgam.Author simulated ancient tin amalgam technology, exercised x-ray diffraction and x-ray fluorescence, detected residues of Hg in bronze mirror. It is proved that high tin bronze mirror surface will exist Cu20Sn6, Cu5.6Sn, Cu7Hg6, CuHg for daubing tin amalgam, but heated to boiling point than mercury Cu7Hg6, CuHg phase will disappear gradually as their unstable. It is not evidential for containing mercury or not that bronze surface daubed tin amalgam. We polish nebulae mirror which was simulation casted, and its final effection show, high tin bronze mirror before Tang comes out itself silvery white, and its imaging effect will compare with modern glass after bronze surface is machined and polished. To the use of perspective, appears to be no need to wash tin amalgam on the surface.
