On The Cultural Identity In Chinese Modern Arts From The Diversification Of The Art Materials

By the great development of science and technology in past 20th century, human beings were also experieced modernism and post-modernism, especially the latter, which took an attitude with suspect and re-examine everything, began to reconsidering the history and future of the human nature. The visual arts, as one of the important parts of liberal arts, has already dedicated greatly in such a imaginative society. However, as a material carrier of arts, the concept of media varies from time to time. In modern arts, everything could be parts of art works. By the way, the boundless expanding of the extent in art materials were unseperately with the ideology transformation, just because of the mutual affection between subject and object, which leads to the value and existance mode of arts degenerated once again. Consequently, the word "aesthic"is no longer the target by the artists.Besides, the last 20th century was a period that cultural communication unprecedently frequency. One of the results is that the foreign culture makes a strong challenge to the traditional culture. Of course, admiring blindly to the foreign culture will leads traditional culture to lose the initiave in culture collision, while abide by tradition sedulously will trap itself either. According to the situation mentioned above, and link the cultural characteristic of modern arts itself, in my opinion, the intention of modern arts still lies in refiecting the society, even to introspect and criticize the social problems. As a developping country, the economic base of China depended the social problems and controdictions has its unique feature comparing with foreign countrie's, such as population problems, the wide gap between the rich and poor, the educational problems and so on. Thus, the cultural identity of Chinese modern arts lies in intervening the current social reality, so that it can manifest "the moment" cultural identity properly. However,this "cultural identity" is different from traditional "cultural identity", the critique attitude is their distinction.
