In the field of language learning and teaching there is a widespread acceptance of the idea that the native language could greatly influence the second language acquisition or foreign language learning, and that is transfer. Therefore, native negative transfer is an extremely important factor in second language acquisition. Through many scholars'research, it was found that college students'writing proficiency is rather poor.As.the syntactic errors are always the most common errors in the writings, and there are comparatively few investigation studies that have been made in this area, the author has conducted an investigation research on the syntactic error analysis on the writings of non-English majors. One hundred subjects of freshmen are selected from the musical department in Inner Mongolia Normal University and the compositions all together 100 are collected. The result of the study shows that most of Chinese students' compositions are influenced by the Chinese language. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches are used in the thesis. The quantitative approach is used to deal with the numbers of syntactical errors in the students' compositions, analyzing and describing the phenomenon of Chinese interference, and the qualitative approach is used to describe the negative transfer of Chinese in the students'compositions. After analyzing the students'compositions, the author shows the syntactical errors in the students'writings in the form of a table, summarizes the errors and then gives some suggestions to the teachers in English writing teaching.
