As the first Communism Republic, Soviet-Russia attracted the attention all over the World in the beginning of 20 century. For the early Communism theorists in China, the Communism stood for all niceness. In Li Dazhao, Chen Duxiu and theirs follower's view, Soviet-Russia was not only the hope of China, but also the hope of World. However, the knowledge of Soviet-Russian just came from a few booklets. They were unsatisfied with the situation, so in 1920, Qu Qiubai went to Russia as a correspondent of the Chen Bao (Morning News) of Peking. From the early 1921 to the end of 1922, Qu stayed in Russia. During the period, he wrote A Journey to the Land of Hunger, History of the Heart in the Red Capital, which described his observation and thought. In this thesis, author tries to analyze the process of Soviet-Russia images construction mainly through A Journey to the Land of Hunger and History of the Heart in the Red Capital. The thesis intends to use the approach of image study in comparative literature, meanwhile, it also use cultural studies and other theories to probe into Qu's mentality. The thesis consists of three chapters:Chapter one analyzes Qu's self-identity and the Soviet-Russia images before he arrived the country. Qu regarded himself as a sociologist and hoped to search both the way of Chinese society and self-rebirth. There is no denying the fact that the images are imaginary in this phase.Chapter two analyzes the Soviet-Russia images systemically when Qu arrived Russia. It focuses on two aspects:society and figures. On the other hand, it shows Qu's narration methods such as general description, classificatory glossary and otherwise, and points out the potential tendency to compare with China of the time in the travel notes.Chapter three discusses Qu's personality and the essence of Soviet-Russia images. It indicates that Qu's melancholy character posed an underlying effect on the construction of Soviet-Russia and his choice of joining the Communism party. In addition, it argues the essence of the Soviet-Russia is Utopia by two mainly reasons:firstly, the images emphasis on future, and secondly, the images are so difference from the China of that time.
