Objective:(1)Investigate the overall situation of vocational students with low self-esteem;(2) Explore the relationship between self-esteem and correlative psychological factors of Vocational students such as sense of security, mastery, self-efficacy, anxiety, depression, shyness; (3) Explore the effective group intervention of improving low self-esteem of vocational students.Methods:By Stratified cluster sampling method,460 students from a vocational college in Hunan completed Self-esteem Scale, Maslow Security-Insecurity Inventory, Shapiro Control Inventory, Anxiety-Scale,Depression-Scale,Shyness-Scale.Mea-nwhile,9-week group intervening based on the purpose of developing self-awareness, training social communication skills, enhancing the capacity of emotion regulation was for 28 eligible students with low self-esteem.Results:(1) A total of 460 vocational students was investigated, and we got 439 valid questionnaires; There was a total of 62 stu-dents with low self-esteem,14.1% of the total sample size. (2) In terms of gender, the self-esteem of boy students scored higher than girls; in biogenic or the only child or not,there were no significant differences on self-esteem;parental education or occupation had no significant effect on self-esteem of vocat-ional students; The scores of self-esteem of vocational students from divorced families were significantly lower than non-divor-ced families; The scores of self-esteem of vocational students had no significantly difference in different family incomes, but from the equalization point of view, the higher the household income, the higher the self-esteem of vocational students scored. (3)The scores of control (positive control, self-control, positive self-confidence, positive compliance) and self-efficacy of the high self-esteem group were significantly higher than low self-esteem group, and in terms of security-insecurity, Control (negative control, passive compliance), anxiety, depression, shyness factor,the scores of high self-esteem group were significantly lower than low self-esteem group. (4)The self-esteem of vocational students was significantly positively correlated with control (positive control, self-control, positive self-confidence, positive compliance), self-efficacy.the self-est-eem of vocational students was significantly negatively correl-ated with the scores of security-insecurity, control (negative control, another control, negative self-confidence, negative com-pliance), anxiety, depression, shyness. (5) Regression results show that positive self-confidence, depression, positive control, negative control, shyness,entered the regression equation. Positive self-confidence and positive self-control predict a si-gnificant positive relationship between self-esteem of vocational students and them.Depression. negative control, shyness, predict a significant negative relationship between self-esteem and them. (6) Through group intervention, the self-esteem of the vocational student who had take part in the interventing group and their control (positive control, negative control, self-contr-ol),depression, shyness, have improved to some extent. This indicates that the group intervention was an effective form of improving the self-esteem of vocational students.Conclusions:By analysis of self-esteem and related factors and group intervention to vocational students with low self-esteem,we get the following several conclusions:(1) Among vocational students, the low self-esteem accounted for no small proportion of the students, so we need to pay more attention to them.(2) Family factors such as family relations, significantly affects self-esteem of vocational students.(3) Group of low self-esteem have a stronger sense of insecurity and poor sense of control, and their self-efficacy is low, and depression, anxiety, shyness are accompanied; positive self-confidence, depression positive control, negative control, shyness are significant predictors of self-esteem.(4) By building equality, respect, warm atmosphere and psychological training of self-awareness, emotional regulation, interpersonal relationships, life goals, positive behavior,the low self esteem of vocational college students was improved to a certain extent,while the level of control was also significantly improved, self-confidence has been enhanced, shy mood had improved.
