Liu Xie's Wen Xin Diao Long occupies a very important position in the history of literary criticism in China. Among them, his"vicissitudes"theory has an important influence even to literature expert in future generations. Academics on the study of Wen Xin Diao Long·Vicissitudes are very rich and varied; however, on the theory of the development of their own diachronic inadequate is not very attention. Because when Liu Xie in building their own theory, he must has been influenced by the literature in practice development of the reality in factors. At the same time on the theory itself, it should also be gone through an inheritance and development process. In view of this situation, it is a quite necessary question from a special perspective view to study"vicissitudes".This paper intends to closely integrate the history of literature, criticism history, focuses on the"vicissitudes"to discuss the theory of origin produced. Through elaborate the relevant prior theory of Liu Xie, clearance"vicissitudes"in the history of the development leads, to point Liu Xie's theory of the specified reference to the absorption side of their predecessors, namely the "inherit" side. At the same time, combining the development of literary history and the prevailing theory of the actual environment, explore the Wen Xin Diao Long·Vicissitudes bring important development, that is,"innovate"side. This paper through take the Wen Xin Diao Long·Vicissitudes placed in the whole background of the development theory to inspection, comparison, analysis, and further clarifying its theoretical value and impact.The brief introduction of this paper expounds that scholars discuss the situation of the substance of the vicissitudes in 1920s. In addition, this paper is divided into four parts. It mainly elaborates the inheritance of the theory from origin of Liu Xie's vicissitudes. On the basis of it, then discuss that Liu Xie's vicissitudes inherits the theory from the predecessors and his own contribution to this theory.The first part of the article discusses relative theories during Pre-Qin period. Zhou Yi·Xi Ci of Pre-Qin period has mentioned the word of vicissitudes, which stresses on changes. It has great influences on Liu Xie's vicissitudes. Similarly, The Analects of Confucius is also related to the inheritance and development. Although Confucius does not discuss the literary phenomenon, this theory also contributes to the later development of literary criticism.The second part of the article discusses relative theories during Han Dynasty. To this period, Liu An, Yang Xiong, Wang Chong, and others have also discussed the views of inherit and innovation from different angles.The third part of the article discusses relative theories during Wei, Jin, the Northern and the Southern Dynasties period. Lu Ji's Wen Fu pays more attention to the requirements of literary innovation. However, Zhi Yu, Ge Hong have proposed the point of combination the inheritance and innovation in order to enable the better development of literature. This lays the further foundation for Liu Xie's theory of vicissitudes.The four part of the article takes the Vicissitudes as the major and elaborates Liu Xie's vicissitudes detailed. He takes the achievements of predecessors as the basis and combines with the circumstances, then put forward his own concept about vicissitudes. Liu Xie's theory of vicissitudes refers to the meaning of change, but his theory of vicissitudes discusses the concept of the dialectical relationship between the inheritance and development. It occupies an important position in literary-criticism history and has a great theoretical value and impact.
