This thesis attempts to make a contrastive analysis of grammatical cohesive devices between English and Mongolian texts within the framework of Halliday & Hasan's cohesion theory. The features of the grammatical cohesive devices in Mongolian and English texts and their functions of constructing a cohesive unified text in the two languages are discussed in great detail with the support of a large number of data selected from both languages. The aim of this thesis is to explore the similarities and differences of the grammatical cohesive devices between Mongolian and English texts. The contrastive analysis of grammatical cohesive devices between Mongolian and English texts from the perspective of systemic functional grammar is of great help to understand features of cohesion in the two languages and the organization of Mongolian and English texts. It is not only helpful for Mongolian students to learn English texts but also significant to mutual translation between Mongolian and English texts.
