From Degradation To Sublimation

Complication of Yu Dafu's ethical psychology mainly appeared as the conflict and contradiction between emotion and reason, which was also the battle between soul and body. Yu had a famous literal point of view, that'literature works are autobiographies'. The subject matters in Yu's works were very close to the writer's life. What's more, the leading characters in the works were always integrated with the writer himself. Therefore, Yu's works were not only the expression of himself, but also the brave exposure of his soul. Yu was a very emotional person, which had determined that his novels must be filled with emotions. Based on the recognition of Yu's writing manners, we believed that the research of ethical psychology of characters in his novels would be the only and necessary way to recognize the ethical psychology of Yu. During the research, we found the spiritual combination and theoretical support from psychoanalysis. Four representative works were selected for the research and analysis, which were: Degradation, Stray sheep, She is Weak and Late Sweet Osmanthus Flower. These four novels has not only ran through the creation experience of Yu, but also the reflection of the characters'ethical psychology from degradation to sublimation.There are six chapters:The introduction has set forth the meaning of this topic, writing train of thoughts and relative theory. It introduced the way of analysis of ethical psychology of Yu's characters in the four novels through psychoanalysis, which would reflect the process of degradation to sublimation of ethical psychology.Chapter one has analyzed the ethical psychology of leading characters in Degradation, from which we could see that the leading character finally committed suicide because of his incapability of handling the desire.Chapter two has introduced the leading character in Stray Sheep, who was obsessed in desire. However, through the redemption of religion, the leading character was ended up in a different way from that in Degradation.Chapter three has analyzed the story of She is Weak. Zheng Xiuyue let herself degrade in the desire. However, Feng Shifen always acted as her mentor, who made Zheng realized her mistake. Though Zheng didn't make it to defeat the desire in her heart, but the effort she made was a great progress.Through Chapter four, we saw the leading character has finally defeated the desire and made it to sublimation. The beautiful view and the pure mind of the heroine have greatly purified the leading character's spirit.Based on the chapters stated above, the conclusion has set forth the purpose of this thesis, which is to recognize the ethical psychology change of Yu Dafu through research of the characters'ethical psychology.
