This thesis is an analysis of American fashion toy Barbie the first lively woman created by doll design industry. The adult design of Barbie enlarges little girls'horizon, they can touch the real world outside their kindergartens just by playing with Barbie. Meanwhile, they can also experience all layers of the adult world. With its ever-changing image, Barbie greatly inspires little girls'imagination and shapes those girls'social interaction. Barbie is a perfect model for American young girls.This thesis interprets the issue of Barbie doll as an educative model. The study is carried in three aspects: career Barbie, multicultural Barbie and fashion Barbie. On the one hand, it analyzes the doll itself. On the other hand, it examines and explores the importance of the Barbie doll and its educational function in American society.The main body of the thesis consists of three chapters. Chapter One discusses Barbie's various careers that free young girls imagination in becoming somebody they just dream for. Chapter Two addresses Barbie's dozens of nationalities which not only broaden young girls'horizon in multiculturalism but also teach a lessen for those young girls that prejudice and discrimination among the race issue can be harmonized. Chapter Three mainly argues Barbie's lifestyle. From the beginning, Barbie has been presented as a model of real life. Mattel put its slogan straightforwardly: Barbie doll is not only a doll or a toy but a kind of fashion mode and a kind of lifestyle, which brings children an advanced tasting of the adult world and prepares young girls for becoming adults.Finally, the thesis arrives at the conclusion that Barbie has greatly influenced young girls, which mainly displayed in freeing young girls'imagination and shaping their social interaction.
