For hundreds of years, the powerful influence of literary paintings has been submerging the value of the landscapes of the Northerner Faction. These paintings are an important category of paintings that differ from literary ones and possess their own art value and unique aesthetic value. However, the Chinese painting history has never stressed this kind of paintings. Usually, people have been always expounding the painters of such paintings respectively except the Three of North Song Dynasty being considered as focal points. In the past, scholars paid less attention to the changes of style of the Northerner Faction of North Song Dynasty. Instead, they obstructed the concrete research of the individuals by emphasizing the research of landscapes of the whole Song Dynasty. landscapes of the whole Song Dynasty to those of the Northerner Faction of Song Dynasty is as the whole to the parts, the general to the special. Any study on the whole and on the parts will be helpful to the individual research, but the former cannot take the place of the later. In the recent years, people come to show solicitude for the landscapes of the Northerner Faction but their attention is far from enough. What's more, they focus more on the research of painting theory or the style of such individual painters.landscapes of the Northerner Faction kept a subtle relation with the so-called literary paintings. Outwardly, Northerner Faction have nothing to do with literary paintings -----their styles are sharply different seemingly, but actually, as early as North Dynasty, paintings of Northerner Faction have had melted more emotion into their ration unconscientiously.This dissertation aims to probe into such a problem in view of the changes of Northerner Faction's paintings by exerting a comparison vertically and horizontally and connecting many factors such as social and cultural back- groundings, aesthetic psychology, social acceptance, law of the development of art itself and so on. Under premise of taking history as arguments and depending on image data as well as scholars'works , it offers not only an intensive explanation of style changes of the landscapes of the Northerner Faction in the painting history in Song Dynasty from the mood of composition, skills of brush and ink, expressing means, and the like but also an objective judgment about the position and impacts of the new painting style for the purpose of letting people have a correct and comprehensive idea of the painting of the Northerner Faction . This will be correspondingly of practical meaning to redress people's wrong doing--- obscuring the fact and denying entirely the Northerner Faction's paintings, especially helpful for the creation of landscapes nowadays.
