Research On The Chen Xulu Historiography

Chen Xulu, who was born in Hunan, is a famous historian in 20th century. He has original view toward modern Chinese history and made an intensive study of it. Chen Xulu has made outstanding contribution to pressing ahead with the study of modern Chinese history. It can be observed that Chen Xulu is an important representative in modern Chinese history during the last half of the 20th century. Hence the study of the Chen Xulu historiography has an important significance. In this dissertation, the author tried to explain the historical thoughts of Chen Xulu and comprehensively and systematically study'the Evolution of Modern Chinese Society'deeply which is the internal structure of the Chen Xulu historiography around his practice of history. The author hoped to give a felicitous statue and comment to achievement and influence of the Chen Xulu historiography.There are five parts in this dissertation including the introduction, three chapters and the conclusion.In the introduction, the author explained the situations of the research on the Chen Xulu historiography, then displayed the significance of the research on the Chen Xulu historiography, and showed the train of thought and methods of the study at last.In the first chapter, the life and the academic way of Chen Xulu was mainly introduced. The author would give a full view of the Chen Xulu historiography by means of describing and evaluating his main works.In the second chapter, the author mainly explained the historical thoughts of Chen Xulu. His Reflections and explorations on history, historian and the study of historical figures were Expounded and analyzed. The above discourse would expand around the practical care which is an important feature of the historical thoughts of Chen Xulu.In the third chapter, the author introduced the main paradigms which have been used in the study of modern Chinese history. The creating process and the connotation of the purports that is'the Evolution of Modern Chinese Society' would be explained. Thus the achievement the Chen Xulu historiography would be showed. The author pointed out that 'the Evolution of Modern Chinese Society'is a hallmark work as a response to historiography reform in the new period through reading it. In the conclusion, The author made a summary to achievement and influence of the Chen Xulu historiography. With this, the author displayed the role and function of the Chen Xulu historiography.
