The British Documentary Movement leaded by John Griergon was the great source of the documentary development and has had a considerable impact on it. Humphrey Jennings was the most unique author among the Britain documentary movement in the 1930-40's. his film works, which reconstruct the reality with poetic audio-visual language, incarnate a perfect combination of realism and poetry. In the history of world cinema, "the British documentary movement" as a whole be examined by domestic and foreign experts. In this paper, I attempt to in-depth The British Documentary Movement,selecting the most representative of the two directors and their representative films, having a comparative analysis. Researching the relationship of inheritance and separated in documentary philosophy and practice between Jennings and Grierson, Analyzing the main reasons for the differences. It has great significance for us to sort out the historical development of documentary film to examine the social value of a documentary to explore the development direction of a documentary.
