LüKun's Propriety Thought And Practices

LüKun is a famous thinker in late Ming dynasty who pays attention to people's livelihood and education in society. He hopes to rule country by rite ,therefore, he writes two books on rituals : Supplements to Jia Li and Scepticism on Jia Li .He elaborates his propriety thought systematically : First, daily practices need propriety. propriety is omnipresence .The system of propriety thought is complete and detailed, including male and female;adults and children; propriety is throughout the whole of people's life.Second, conciseness and true feeling is real propriety .conciseness and true feeling are two necessary factors of propriety . red tapes and false consciousness is against the practice. The text gives many examples to explain the importance of conciseness and true feeling. Third, people can observe the classic ,or make appropriate adjustments according to the practical situation . Scholars need to find a balance in reality and classic. LüKun thinks that scholars should observe the classic,and make appropriate adjustments according to the practical situation.LüKun's propriety thought and his practice is closely related. He makes many practice between old propriety and present custom.In clans LüKun actively implements Confucianism,Xiaohehui and clans activities. In local places, LüKun actively implements the community surveillance,and he takes many measures to improve the social atmosphere.Besides preface and conclusion, the text is divided into three parts:The first part, this paper expounds the background of LüKun's propriety thought . Namely it introduces the background of middle-late Ming and LüKun's academic thought . The second part is the main part of the paper, and it expounds the main content of LüKun's propriety thought .
