"The narrative interruption" is a kind of common narrative strategy in modernist fictions. It often stems from a new narrative means of access to the text. Since people's original reading habits and aesthetic patterns will be broken by the innovation of form or content, the interference of reading will come into being. Modern fictions, going after form experiment, tirelessly explore in every aspects, such as the narrator, narrative perspective, narrative time, narrative language, etc. They successfully overturned the narrative mode of modern novels in the 19th century, in which the plot, character and environment are dominant parts, producing a number of poetic novels, symbolic novels, stream-of-consciousness novels, no causal-connection plot novel, etc. Owing to the innovation of form or content, these texts are full of abundant "narrative interruption" strategies. This article attempts to analyze the above phenomenon in modern fictions, and summarize the types of "narrative interruption" from the perspective of narratology. Combined with some specific text, the reason, function and value of the application of "zero narrative style", "unreliable narrator and untrustworthy narrator","non-logic and anti-logic of narrative language " as the typical "narrative interruption" strategies are expounded. |
