Human And Crowd ——view The Relationship Between Personal Expression And Grand Narrative On Fang Lijun's Works

Fang Lijun is a Cynical Realism and Individualism example of Chinese contemporary artists, his value is not only his independent painting language or unique style, but also his capacity for independent thinking and value judgment. In terms of the ideological connotation, individuality, deconstruction and difference are opposite to Grand Narrative, macro theory and universality. While, all the time the Chinese contemporary art regards "epic poetry" as the highest ideological and artistic pursuit. Represented with Fang Lijun, the Chinese contemporary artists see holding the spirit of the time as their responsibility. Therefore, in essence, Grand Narrative is not deconstructed by Modernistic Literary Theory, but it is constructed to be more baronial and diversity with the new ideological idea and means of artistic expression. At present, there are many comments on Fang Lijun, but they only treat him as a representative of individual performance. Consequently, I think the analysis on Fang Lijun will be more value from the macroscopically point of"human and crowd".In Fang Lijun's works, crowd exists in the form of populace, on this account we can think that is his perspective from which he studies the society. His flatly painted pictorial language and pure color are in sharp contrast to some of the contemporary Academism artists, humanism artists and some other artists who simply import a Western language.The artistry of his works do not simply attach importance to the form any more, while the artistical specialty happen to have the same view with contemporary art and current thought. So talking about the artistry of Fang Lijun's works, we have to take his cultural and his identity as an artist into account.In my master's thesis, by means of presenting Fang Lijun and his works, I try to study the relationship between individual and collective, the relationship between personal expression and grand narrative, and so on. What's more, through analyzing Fang Lijun's painting, I do a deep analysis on the definition of the basic content of the Individualism, and I think about his works, his artistic conceptions and his artistic value. Facing the reality, by analyzing Fang Lijun's influence on the mass fashion, I analyze the practical significance of a human in the contemporary society and the masses lacking of artistic criterion. Therefore, I think that in contemporary China we should not only need the tolerance of Individualism, but also truly establish ourselves and set standards in our self-improvement.
