Objective This study examines the status of impulsiveness and its related factors among undergraduates of a medical university, in order to provide evidence for early intervention of impulsiveness personality and mental health. Methods We selected 5533 students of one Medical University as the subjects. Data were collected by using the Children Adversity Experiences Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory, the Life Events Scale, the Family APGAR Index, the Quality of Life Scale and the Social Support Scale. Under the basis of single factor analysis, the stepwise linear regression were employed to explore related factors of impulsive; the dependent variable was total score of impulsiveness; the independent variables were children adversity experiences, negative life events, family function, quality of life, social support, and the demographic characteristics, such as gender, age, religion, et al.Results The average of total score of impulsiveness is 35.75±11.28 among medical college students. The total score of impulsiveness among female students was higher than that among the male and with significant statistically difference. In term of the total score of impulsiveness, there was statistical significance between different grade, age, sex, love and marriage status, living status, source of medical fee, the specialty satisfaction degree and religion. But these factors did not completely accord with the influential factors of three dimensions (plan, motor, cognitive) of impulsiveness. Additionally, the single factor analysis result showed the aggressiveness and suicidal ideation were related with impulsiveness. The stepwise linear regression revealed that children adversity experiences, quality of life, social support, family function, depress, gender, status of love affair, the specialty satisfaction degree and religion entered regression equation. Students who had poor quality of life, family dysfunction, few social support were more vulnerable to impulsive, so were student who had high score of depression. More children adversity experiences, more impulsive. It was more likely to be impulsive among student who is female, falling in love, unsatisfied with his specialty, having a religion. Conclusions More attention should be paid to impulsiveness in medical college students. The impulsiveness among medical students was significant different between gender. Children adversity experiences possibly play important role in occurrence of impulsiveness. To promote the students'healthy development, we should pay more attention to impulsiveness and carry out kinds of preventive measures to decrease the incidence of impulsiveness.
