Comparative Research Of The Suicide Idea In Students In Higher Vocational Colleges And Undergraduate Institutions And Of Its Influential Factors

Objective Compare students who major in clinical medicine in undergraduate institution with those in medical vocational colleges to find whether there is difference in psychological health and incidence of suicide idea between them; investigate the factors which arouse the suicide idea in students in higher vocational colleges and undergraduate institutions to provide medical colleges at different levels with reasonable advice on health education of university students and formulation of suicide intervention documents.Method: choose 837 students at random from medical vocational and undergraduate institution in so-and-so city as respondents in stratified cluster random sampling method. Conduct a questionnaire survey on them in the form of questionnaire, SIOSS, ASLEC, LOT-R, SES, GSEC, SDS, BHS, QSA and EPQ-RSC. Database software EpiData 3.0 is adopted to establish data base and input data. Statistical analysis of data is conducted by means of Software package 16.0.Resultsâ‘ The positive rate of suicide idea and conamen in higher vocational school is higher than that in undergraduate institutions. To be specific, 12.33% of the respondents in higher vocational colleges cherish suicide idea in recent year, the percentage of male who cherish suicide idea higher than that of female (male 14.6%, female 10.6%); 6.0% of the respondents try committing suicide. 7.49% of the respondents in undergraduate institution cherish suicide idea, the percentage of female who cherish suicide idea higher than that of male (male 5.6%, female 9.8%). 2.9% of the respondents try committing suicide. However, students in undergraduate institutions cherish intenser suicide idea than students in higher vocational college do.â‘¡The report rate and the intensity of suicide idea existing in higher vocational colleges and undergraduate institutions are different among different grades and genders. The report rate and the intensity of suicide idea cherished by the freshmen in higher vocational colleges are higher than that in undergraduate institutions, but the intensity of suicide idea cherished by students in other grades in higher vocational colleges is lower than that in undergraduate institutions, little difference in the report rate of suicide idea; the report rate of suicide idea and conamen cherished by male students in higher vocational colleges is higher than that in undergraduate institutions, little difference in female students in both kinds of colleges.â‘¢The factors which arouse suicide idea in students in higher vocational colleges are distinctly different from those arousing suicide idea in students in undergraduate institutions to some extent. Students who cherish suicide idea in undergraduate institutions are prouder and more depressed than those in higher vocational colleges, but Students in higher vocational colleges can suffer from more negative life events than those in undergraduate institutions; students who cherish suicide idea in higher vocational colleges have a positive attitude to committing suicide, considering it is admissible, understandable and forgivable, but students undergraduate institutions have a contradictory or neutral attitude. The optimal regression analysis showed that depression and nervosity are the common factors which arouse suicide idea in students in both undergraduate institutions and higher vocational colleges. Still there are different factors. Students in higher vocational colleges are influenced by their self-esteem and introverted or extroverted personality while students in undergraduate institutions are influenced by negative life events, penalty factor, depression, cognition of the nature of suicidal behavior and nervosity.Conclusions: The report rate and influential factors of suicidal behavior among the students who major in medicine are different in different levels of colleges. Therefore, targeted measures should be taken to prevent suicide from occurring according to the main factors which arouse suicide idea in students in different levels of medical colleges.
