Under the Background of "cultural turn" in the latter half of the 20th century, Feminist Translation Theory came into being on the basis of the combination of feminism and translation in the West. From then on, gender factors are brought into translation, and a great feminist movement is developed in translation field.Feminist Translation Theory originated from Canadian feminists'translation practices, it is a translation school which has a strong awareness of feminist sense, political sense and cultural sense. Feminist Translation Theory breaks the shackles of binary opposition in traditional translation theory and its distinctive feature is the subversion of fidelity in traditional translation theory, it reinterprets the relationship between the translation and the original text, the translator and the original author. To achieve real equality in language, Feminist Translation Theory asks the translator to rewrite the text in a feminist way and highlight women's status in the translation. The rise of Feminist Translation Theory extends people's horizon, enriches the contemporary translation theory, and provides a new way to translation research. And also, it plays a great role in promoting the development of feminism. Whatever, the clear-cut political stance and the rather subversive way of translation in Feminist Translation Theory causes much controversy among scholars. Feminist Translation Theory is composed of different schools, and each school has its drawbacks in theory. Besides, the overkill of Feminist Translation Theory leads to a new formation of binary opposition in translation, and makes the theory have the risk of departing from the original intention of translation. The contributions and limitations of Feminist Translation Theory enlightened us. Since Feminist Translation Theory has been introduced into China, domestic scholars have given the theory much concern to a certain degree, but most of them confined their studies to the introduction to the theory, few of them gave Feminist Translation Theory such a detailed and fair evaluation. In view of this situation, the author would like to compose this article to express her understanding of Feminist Translation Theory. First, the paper briefly examines the relationship between feminism and translation. Second, the author expounds the ideas of Feminist Translation Theory. Then, based on the positive contributions, the author exposes and analyzes the limitations of Feminist Translation Theory. Expressing her own view of Feminist Translation Theory, the author expects a positive development and improvement in Feminist Translation Theory in order to serve translation and feminism better.
