Modern Chinese Body Image In The Horizen Of Euro-American Culture

Studying Chinese Image in western view is a traditional subject of Imagologie, and it has distinguishing comparative characteristics. Since 20th century 70 or 80years, along with the import of Post-Modernism Theory of literature and Consumption Culture, all of these inject new vitality into existing theory and method exploration of the Imagologie. This paper makes a bold trial using body theory into studying modern Chinese Body Image in western view,and the same time it combines Post-Colonial theory and Discourse Power of Foucault to make a comprehensive analysis of modern Chinese Body Image under Euro-American culture. For a long time after 1840, the concern and depicts of Chinese body rewritten the history of just concerning china's products, politics, economy and other material things. It is the first time that they put the common people in all walks of life and different occupations in a central position. This paper selects modern Chinese society as the range of history time, the first part make a thorough review of the meaning and value of this theme, and the research situation at home and abroad. In the second part, the paper offers an observations the features of depicts of modern Chinese body image of Euro-American countries, and make a comprehensive analysis from three aspects of clothes and appearance, body and sense organ, characteristic feature, summarizing three features of this betrayed Chinese Body Image:foolishness, numbness, uncivilized. The third part mainly deconstructs the body myth constructed by Euro-American country from cultural difference, colonial expansion, power of discourse, and points out that Chinese body image has its ideology feature in particular reality. In the final, this paper make a conclusion that body is a place where various power of discourse fight fiercely, and write its own history. Therefore the author believed that both in west and in china, body take its role as a political mark bearing power of discourse in modern time, which has tremendous influence to the modern China's social reality.
