Group Counseling Of The Junior Middle School's Students' Social Adaptability

Social adaptability is a personality characteristics which formed gradually in the process of social adaptation. It not only affects the individual's feelings to the social pressure, but also decides the individual's choice to the coping strategies.The junior middle school students usually have many contradictory psychologica characters, such as childish and mature, impulse and control, independence and dependence. It certainly lead to many social adaptive problems. With the mobility of the population accelerated quickly, it brings a large number of mobile students. The Mobile students may encounter more complex environmental adaptive problems.Contrary to the common social adaptive problems which the junior middle school students meet, we designed a group counseling program with the counseling techniques, such as active listening, empathy, social interaction, and social support and so on.Through providing the junior middle school students with group counseling of their self-awareness, emotional control, social skills, cognitive style, we hoped to improve their social adaptability.This study used the experimental method. We selected two three-grade natural classes from Dongjing Junior Middle School in changsha, divided into the experimental class and the control class. The members of the experimental class were provided with counseling for two and a half months,10 times altogether. While the control classes participated in the ordinary teaching activities which the school arranged during this period. Base on the differences of the social adaptability between the experimental class and the control class, and the differences between the pre-test and the post-test inside the experimental class, we analyzed the validity and feasibility of the group counseling on improving the junior middle school students'Social adaptability.Meanwhile, the counseling effects were compared between the local students and the mobile student, in the hope of bring some usefully messages to the future study.The research findings show:1. After the group counseling, the social adaptability's overall level of the local students was higher than the experimental class. Especially in the autonomy, power, ability, social acceptance, the psychological advantage of feeling, mental energy, and the total score, the difference reached the significant level.2. The experimental class happened significantly progress on the overall social adaptability, the two dimensions of mental energy and interpersonal adaptability, and the seven factors of Power, ability, locum, Community acceptance, altruistic tendencies, challenge and flexibility. While the change of the control class's social adaptability was not significant.3. The progress of the local students on the social adaptability was faster than the mobile students'. Especially in the sense of control, autonomy, power, social acceptance, altruistic tendencies, and challenging, flexible, optimistic tendencies, the difference ranch the significant level.In a word, the group counseling can effectively enhance the social adaptability of the junior middle school students. The counseling program which we designed in this study has good applicability and feasibility to improve the junior middle school students'social adaptability. It had more effective to the local students than the mobile students.
