Study On The Image Of Cantonese Merchants In Qing Dynasty Novels

This article takes the Cantonese Merchants recorded by in Qing Novels as the research subject, and then has a profound analysis on their images in order to get a reasonably position for them by using literature and history methods. Firstly, this article had a brief introduce on the Cantonese commercial conditions of successive dynasties and the literary images of Cantonese Merchants in the novel before Qing Dynasty. Secondly it divided the novels of Qing Dynasty into two sections:the Early Middle of Age of the Qing Dynasty and the late Qing Dynasty, and analyzed respectively. It analyzed the typical characteristics of the Cantonese merchants in different periods base on cultural, political, economic and other factors. As a research priority, it also manifested the features of merchants which possessd the characteristics of time and region. The first two chapters of this article focuses on studying the unique Guangdong businessmen images,such as the businessmen of foreign firms in Guangdong, the Guangdong national capitalist businessmen,the overseas Chinese businessmen who hail from Guangdong and so on. what's more this article discussed the Characterization and limitations of Cantonese merchants in the novels on view of literary criticism basing on image study. Finally, it made a summary on the historical and literary historical significance of the Cantonese Merchants'images appeared in novels, as well as their research value. It has a positive meaning to Cantonese business study by analyzing the Cantonese Merchants'images appeared in Qing Dynasty Novels.
