"Yangzhou Eight Eccentric Artists" were the artist group that had the richest innovational spirits in the Chinese art history during the reign of Emperor Kangxi & Qianlong in the mid Qing Dynasty. Through the literature collection, reorganization, analysis, conclusion, on-the-spot investigation and based on studies of the predecessor, I start my research with the angle of calligraphy, take the historic textual research as the ordinate, the esthetic analysis as the abscissa, aiming at explaining their artistic characters and great significance, refining their unique region culture and connotation. Accordingly, the brief research can be illustrated as follows. In chapter 1, it is expatiated the purpose and significance for choosing the topic, current status, objects and basic elements of the research. In chapter 2, It mainly discusses the source of the name "Yangzhou Eight Eccentric Artists" and the social reasons of forming their own artistic ideas and style. In chapter 3, from enumerating examples, it mostly talks about the representative calligraphists'life and art value of "Yangzhou Eight Eccentric Artists" in the city of Yangzhou, meanwhile, according to their location, it divides these artists into "calligraphists from local Yangzhou " and "calligraphists from some other places", In chapter 4, it primarily summarizes 5 calligraphic achievements of "Yangzhou Eight Eccentric Artists". Finally, in chapter 5, it concludes the viewpoints of this research should express.
