| An English abstract, an indispensable part of the academic journal paper in CNKI, should demonstrate a kind of texture in its composition. The texture is a means to represent the quality of the academic abstracts, and the abstracts with quality texture will promote the international interflow of Chinese academic papers. So, a deep and systemic analysis on texture of English abstracts is of much necessity and help for the would-be authors of academic papers. This thesis carries out both the quantitative and qualitative analysis on the texture of 500 randomly-selected English abstracts from CNKI. It, based on the theory of coherence and cohesive, the theory of theme and rheme, makes six divisions of texture: the parallel, the constant, the split, the crossing, the linear and the miscellaneous. This paper focuses on the general distribution of texture types in CNKI academic abstracts, the distributions of texture types in different disciplines, and the similarities and differences of the distributions in different disciplines. It is statistically concluded that:the type of Miscellaneous is the most frequently used texture, and it implies that the level of the English abstracts writing should be further improved; the type of Parallel is widely applied for it is easy to understand and handle. What's more, the general distributions of a specific texture type in the academic abstracts of different disciplines are of great difference. The significance of this paper commits itself to arousing the interest and attention of the language researchers and promoting a deeper research into text structure. |
