Japanese contemporary composer Toshio Hosokawa(1955-)is described by the international music circle as “the most promising contemporary Japanese composer after Toru Takemitsu.” His creation style combines the Japanese traditional music style with Western composing techniques. He has served as a composer of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, visiting professor at the Tokyo University of the Arts, and tenured professor at the Tokyo College of Music. This article takes Toshio Hosokawa's string quartet “Floral Fairy” as the research object, with texture as the main perspective and focuses on the analysis of texture features and structural phenomena in the work.It attempts to analyze the different elements of the texture to summarize the structural function of texture in the work. This kind of analysis concept can better sum up the structural principles of modern and contemporary music creation. On the one hand,it can comprehensively demonstrate the structural approach on the micro and macro levels of the work.On the other hand,it can also allow us to observe the structure of modern and contemporary musical works in a comprehensive and multi-level manner, thereby apply it in creative practice. This article consists of two chapters: The first chapter describes the texture features in the works separately in combination with teasing out the constituent elements of the texture, and then analyzes and studies the weaving techniques and the movement patterns of the texture;the second part is a summary of the structural features of the work. And the role and function of the texture in the process of structure construction is illustrated.
