| China, as the world ancient civilization, has a rich cultural heritage, and ancient Chinese poetry is a pearl in the world literary history. With the advancement of China's international status in recent years, Chinese culture has attracted widespread attention around the world. Ancient Chinese poetry translation helps to propagate Chinese culture, promote the communication with western cultures and develop Chinese culture industry. Splendid as it is, the translation of ancient Chinese poetry has a long way to go. Professor Wang Rongpei is the pacesetter among the countless translators who devote themselves to the great work of poetry translation. He is the representative of the school of rhyming. He points out some poetry translation theories, such as "faithful in meaning and vivid in description". He has accomplished many excellent translated works, e.g. The Book of Songs, The Book of Change, Zhuangzi, Laozi and Tao Yuanming's PoetryThis paper is intended to summarize and analyze Professor Wang Rongpei's translation techniques and expect better translated works. The author in this paper reveals the recognition of English versions through reader response questionnaire, compares the English versions of five well-known ancient Chinese poems and calculates the results with the aid of SPSS statistical tool for frequency and relative frequency. The questionnaire survey of the 56 English readers shows that Professor Wang Rongpei's translations have been endorsed and approved by the majority. Translating poetry in a poetic way is highly appreciated by the English readers.The author summarizes Professor Wang Rongpei's poetry translation techniques as follows:avoiding losing meaning for the sake of rhythm; proper and valid understanding for the original poetry; creatively reproducing the original style; concentrating on readers'feelings and proper rendering of imagery feature.
