This thesis is on the study of polysyllabic words in Mo zi from the perspective of language and vocabulary. There are two reasons. Firstly, Mo Zi has an important value in studying pre-Qin Chinese, because it has abundant oral language materials. But it is lack of research results in the fields of linguistics. Secondly, the change from Monosyllable words to polysyllable words brings about a lot of researchable subjects. We have to do the research on the basis of studying plentiful practical examples. So this thesis selects the polysyllable words in Mo zi in order to make a contribution in the area of polysyllable words.According to the four standards of semantics, syntax, rhetoric, and frequency, this thesis syncopates 1410 polysyllable words from Mo zi. In the thesis 1150 two-syllable words are analyzed in terms of voice, semantic and grammar. The thesis is mainly composed of four parts:The first part is introduction. It introduces the basis of topic and research overview, version and corpus as well as the criteria of finding out polysyllable words.The second part is the basic condition of polysyllable words in Mo zi. It shows the fundamental condition of polysyllable words in Mo zi in the three respects of voice, vocabulary and grammar.The third part is the morpheme analysis of polysyllable words in Mo zi. It analyzes the relation of morpheme and the word in meaning. And it shows some morpheme which is easy to form words.The fourth part is the lexical analysis of polysyllable words in Mo zi. It analyzes synonyms and antonyms in notional words on the basis of meaning and analyzes empty words in grammar.In the end the thesis makes a conclusion.
