Wang Guo-wei put forward the aesthetic definition of Classical Elegance in his paper "The Position of Classical Elegance in The History of Aesthetics". The idea of classical elegance plays an important role in understanding Wang's literary and artistic theory. In his idea of classical elegance, Wang Guo-wei took up ideas of Chinese aesthetics as well as absorbed the essence of Kant Aesthetics. Wang's aesthetic theory based on the idea of futility of utility. Beauty is not only useful but also available in Wang's aesthetic thinking. This thesis, based on the idea of futility of utility, mainly discussed following qusetions:1. Classical elegance has a double meaning. A elegant product is an idea of beauty as well as a model to follow.2. Wang Guo-wei connected the ability of judging art with the capibility of artistic creation in his follow work "Jen-chien Tz'u Hua". It determines his view on poet which centers on feelings. Emphasised on the differences between feelings of elegant, and the feelings of beautiful and sublime, Wang guowai discussed two types of poet. One is the genius as a poet, another is writer of elegant works.
