A Contrastive Study On Resultative Verb Compounds "V好" And "V完"

The thesis selects the structures of "V好" and "V完" as the major researching objects and mainly studies their semantic categories and syntax characteristics in perspective of whole structure; when comparing the two above-said structures, in order to show the real interior structure and differences the practical scopes and syntax characteristics have been thoroughly checked ,and the great importance has been attached to the specific choices made by "好"and "完"in choosing their relevant verbs and the complicated relationships between the subject ,predict and object.Chapter 1 mainly describes the general condition on study of "V好" and "V完" and briefly introduces the content and purpose of the study taken by the author, the theory applied ,the idea adopted and the language resources conferred.Chapter 2 discusses the semantic scope and syntax characteristics of "V好". According to the tense characteristics we have classified "V好" into two different states, one is "standard state", and the other is "realized state"; furthermore, the "realized state" can be again divided into "achieved state" and "finished state" and the relevant syntax characteristics can also be found accordingly.Chapter 3 discusses the semantic scope and syntax characteristics of "V完". According to the semantic direction, the structure "V完" could be classified into two states, one is "finished state" ,the other is "ended state", and the relevant syntax characteristics could be found relatively.Chapter 4 takes "finished state" of "V好" and "ended state" of "V完" as the simultaneous object and the complete and comprehensive study on the difference of the two states have been made in terms of syntax and semantics.Chapter 5 has compared and studied the predictive verbs in "V好" and "V完". It is considered that the verbs can be classified into three different types: verbs that could be combined only with "好";verbs that could be combined only with "完"; and verbs that could be combined with both "好"and "完".The semantic characteristics of the three types have been analyzed and the selective modification function of "好"and "完" to the predictive verbs has been concluded.Chapter 6 has concluded the whole thesis and mentioned that the further study on "V好" and "V完" is to be done in the future since some areas have not been covered by the thesis.
