With the implementation of the opening and reform policy, the society has undergone rapid development. The university students are facing the complex social environment, and the frustrations that they encounter in their personal development are numerous. The important and urgent task that the ideological and political educators face is to train the students to overcome the frustrations in an effective way and improve their anti-frustration abilities so that they can lay a solid foundation for their future. Foreign scholars mainly study the cause of the frustration, whereas those in China theatrically focus on the mental characteristics of the frustration and the educational approaches. This thesis makes a comprehensive analysis of the characteristics of mental frustration and effective education for the college students through literature review, theoretical study, investigational analysis and so on, which constitute the main features of the thesis. The thesis consists of three parts.Part One focuses on the definition, characteristics and the cause of the frustration, and analysis of universal frustration, inevitability, diversity and dualism, reveals the growth of college students setbacks.Part Two centers on analyzing the frustration in terms of the common types and its causes and behavior performances, which have a great effect on such fields as employment, study, life and communication. The necessity of the improvement of mental frustration will be mentioned later.Based on the wide range of investigations and interviews, Part Three will explores feasible policies and methods to overcome the mental frustration, and discusses them from the following four aspects. First, it will elaborate on the improvement of mental frustration education and its significance. Second, it proposes the establishment of a good educational system integrating school, family and society. Third, as for the way to explore mental frustration education, logical understanding of the frustration should be given as a priority, and the self-defense mechanism and self adaptation to improve the ability to handle frustration should also be important. Fourth, in the light of the characteristics of university students at all levels, practical ways to help students overcome the frustration are proposed so as to improve the ideological and political education.
