On Qian Mu's Philosophical Theory Of Culture

Qian Mu was one of the most famous masters of Chinese traditional culture. He unhesitatingly advocated Chinese traditional culture all his life. He paid attention to the method of combining historical and philosophical thought to study culture and constructed his distinct ideological system of Chinese traditional culture. As Qian Mu said, the culture is the large group's lives formed during a long history process of gradual progress. He divided the structure of culture into three ranks and seven constituents and pointed out that Chinese culture originated from the triangle zone of the Huanghe valley and experienced four gradual progresses. It was indicated that historical spirit and humanistic spirit and fusion spirit are the most significant features of Chinese culture. Chinese culture is of introversion and fusion while western culture is of extroversion and variation. The different natural environment and economic features between China and West are the important causes that result in different culture characteristics between them. The two world wars are sufficient to explain that compared with the declining modern western culture, Chinese culture advocating peace and attaching importance to morality accomplishment, possesses the permanent value and the potential of leading the world culture. As modern Chinese culture is in a western culture shork, the way to save it includes preserving and disseminating Chinese traditional culture of Confucianism, attaching importance to intelligentsias, taking Chinese traditional culture as main body and mixing together with western culture. Qian Mu's philosophical view of culture enriched the intension of the cultural philosophy greatly, provided new growing point for the study of cultural philosophy on the one hand; due to his age, he's cultural philosophy also possesses obvious historical limitation. Therefore, correct understanding and evaluation of Qian Mu's philosophical view of Chinese Culture is of certain reference and enlightenment effect on building socialistic harmonious society and strengthening the construction of socialist morality, and constructing scientific and reasonable viewpoint of culture.
