Yangwanli was a famous litterateur in the Southern Song Dynasty. He created a character which we called"Chengzhai style". Because of his outstanding reputation on poetry, researchers haven't paied more attention to his essay which is deserved.After statistics of his Narration , there are six volumes , 65 pieces in his works ,that is to say , the total numbers is not few . With high literary achievement, his Narration is also practical. From the literary point of view , his Narration is full of artistic and fancy imagination. He made use of all kinds of skillful and agile methods , vivid and variant language ,distinguished arguments and comments .From the functional point of view , his Narration is instructive and beneficial to human's heart and community .Yang wanli was good at learning from elder .He absorbed in all useful advantages and formed his own particular style. His ability of description was beneficial from Liu zongyuan .On language ,especially of rhythmical prose characterized by parallelism and ornateness was affected by Ou yangxiu ;while at structure and conceptions , he was influenced by Su shi .According to the practical situation of Yang wanli's Narration , we will dissertate briefly his literature thoughts such as"outside of the taste","practical"and"'qi'is the main element in articles"which are specific embodied in his narration. Because of the impact of his practical thoughts, his narration had some obvious limitation , for example , more comments , long and trivial arguments, even full of strong homily component . Moreover, it is evident there are many made-up marks as a result of beening requested ; and the format is unchanged or few changed ,so that his Narration is with more calm but little charming .
