In the eighties of last century, Liu Zaifu put forward the theory of the "Literary Subjectivity", and then triggered a wave of controversy about literary subjectivity. Many scholars involved in this debate. Now, twenty years have passed, scholars are still concerned about this problem. However, in these articles and monographs on the literary subjectivity, most of them are concerned from the point of the theory itself, although a little part of them raised some new questions, but few people made the theoretical system carding and deep reflection to this trend. Based on this, this paper will make a carding process with the theoretical controversy on the literary subjectivity, and will study the impact and the development of the literary theory of China's new era in the process of carding and reflection.Chapterâ… introduces the reality background of Liu Zaifu's "literary subjectivity" theory. Up to now, there are two major modes on studies on the nature of literature and art, which are the objective theory mode and the subjective theory mode. In China, both of them are originated in the period of May 4th Movement. The objective theory model has played an important role in the trend of literary theory in our country. However, in the late fifties of 20th century and during the Cultural Revolution, it was impacted by the Soviet Union's "literature reflection theory" and had a theoretical bias. This led it to a political media. In the same time, the subjective theory mode, which impacted by the factors of reality environment, had not been able to get a lot of development. In the previous criticism movement and the Cultural Revolution, literature lost their autonomy. In that special political background, human nature had been suppressed, human rights had been trampled, and people desired to restore the dignity and rights of human being. This provides a realistic demand for Liu's "literary subjectivity" theory. In the last period, trends of humanitarian and human nature are overwhelming. People have a deeply think about the nature, rights and status of human. This provides a realistic possibility of Liu's theory.Chapterâ…¡introduces the theoretical basis of Liu's theory. In short, its philosophy basis comes from the western subjectivity philosophy and Li Zehou's subjectivity philosophy in practice, and its development is a continuation of "human's literature" and "literature is human study", which includes Hu Feng, Ba Ren and Qian Gurong's thoughts. Chapterâ…¢introduces the development process of the "literary subjectivity" controversy. After Liu raised his theory, academics' responses are different at various stages. In the end of 1980s, scholars started a stormy discussion. In the early of 1990s, most scholars criticized it. When times come into the 21st century, the focus shifted from the "literary subjectivity" to the inter-subjectivity.Chapterâ…£focuses on the significance, limitations, and deep reflection of the "literary subjectivity". This theory made great contributions for the development of the new period's literary theory which pointed out some questions that existed in the previous study of theory of reflection on literature and art. The theory accorded great importance to "human", and that can be seen in the below: affirming and deepening on "literature is the human study" and "humanitarian". The theory is also rich in the essential character of the literary theory. But, this theory has its limitations. This is reflected in the below: the subjectivity is out of objective practice, its understanding of the nature of literature and art has the limitation and the expression of some concepts is not accurate enough. So how should we treat this theory? We should follow the operational mechanisms inside in literature and art themselves. Those mechanisms are the process from the division to unity and from twoness to integration. This is the process of the two-way reverse movement from the expression subject to the rational subject and then from the rational subject to the expression subject. Only in this way, we can grasp the scientific nature of literature and art and deal with the relationship between subject and object of literature and art better. |
