The Antonym Research Of ShuoYuan

Shuoyuan,authored by Liu Xiang, is anther historical story book after Xinxu. It is selected and compiled by Liu Xiang when he was proofreading books and materials kept b- y the royal and the masses, with the features of stories and many dialogues. As one of the most important works of ancient Chinese literature, Shuoyuan not only retains the features of pre-Qin language to record the history, but also presents the traits of the language of Han Dynasty, which is very valuable for language study. This paper is set to study the antonym in Shuoyuan from the following aspects.1,Summarizing almost all the antonyms in Shuoyuan and put them into different catego- ries according to different parts of speech.2,Analyzing the ways the antonyms occur and find out three ways of them: duiwen, lian wen,label type.3,Elaborating on the parts of speech of the antonyms, including bilateral single item, bi-lateral many items, multilateral single item, multilateral many items. The complication of the parts of speech reveals that in the dynasty of Xi Han there was a sophisticated vocabul- ary system.4,Depicting the pronunciations of the antonyms in Shuoyuan, focusing on the connecti- ons and the oppositions of the initial and final, and proving the saying"righteousness counter -sound also instead"is reliable. Form the analysis of 111 pairs of the antonyms, I find that th- ey are all arrayed in the order of"level tone rising tone falling tone entering tone".
