| This thesis sets images of monsters in supernatural evil-spirit novels of Ming and Qing as research subjects and tries to epitomize the characteristic and idiosyncrasy of it as a whole. It also investigates the aesthetic characteristics and literary functions of those monster images.This thesis is divided into three main sections: preface, text and conclusion.Preface: to epitomize the study of current conditions and research value of monster images in supernatural evil-spirit novels of Ming and Qing and to illustrate the investigatory thinking and method.This text is divided into five chapters:Chapter one: In the first place, to discriminate the notion of "goblin", "monster", "daemon", "devil" and point out subtle distinctive as well as the final conjunction of them; Here after, to investigate the emergence of monsters from the source point. For the purpose of having a whole view of goblin culture in ancient china this chapter also arranges daemon related writing in China's ancient scriptures and documents, and systematically lists the whole course of the emergence, aging, development and bloom of the goblins in Chinese literary works.Chapter two: This chapter aims to summarize the general situation of monster images in supernatural evil-spirit novels of Ming and Qing and assort it. Afterward, this part of writing tries to compare those images to monster images of previous literary works so as to investigate the inheritances and new changes in it.Chapter three: this part puts emphasis on analyzing monster images in supernatural evil-spirit novels of Ming and Qing and excavates social implication, religious connotation and philosophical meaning of it.Chapter four: to investigate the aesthetic characteristics of monster images in supernatural evil-spirit novels of Ming and Qing; to analyze its eerie beauty, wild beauty and beauty in reality and illusory.Chapter five: to probe literary function of monster images in supernatural evil-spirit novels of Ming and Qing. Conclusion: to sum up the whole thesis and point out the research focus, research value and significance as well as its defects. |
