Reconstruct Calligraphy Curriculum Of Basic Stage Education

Calligraphy is one of China's classical "six arts", and as one kind of the "arts". Today we also treat it as art, this does not change the name of calligraphy, but because of the different understanding of"Art"in ancient and modern times, in reality, calligraphy's connotation is not as thriving as before and mainly reduce the significance of the calligraphic tradition.Chinese character is the carrier of calligraphy, and it was the age-old language in the world, Chinese is not only the heritage of human culture, but also the reflection of characteristics of our nation. Language is the most direct carrier of culture, and language is a compulsory course of all nations. How to set up the curriculum of a nation language is a problem that needs to be considered. Chinese characters, the verse, classical Chinese poem, songs, poetic essay and calligraphy are the highest forms of it; calligraphy includes basic stage of reading, literacy and writing, which are the basic for learning others. So, Calligraphy is special and shown as a form of culture, its educational function is more obvious and the author considered calligraphy not only an art but take the three aspects: practicality, culturally and artistic aspect integrated as a whole.In view of vacancy of Calligraphy curriculum in basic stage education nowadays, this paper tries to analyze and discuss calligraphy courses at all aspects learning from history and current status of investigations. The author focuses on the theoretical foundation of it and gives detailed exposition before it in order to instruct the urgency and the needs of reconstruction. After that, the paper focus on the aim and sub-goals of different stages; curriculum content, including hierarchical and classification structure, then specific contents; curriculum methods, including teaching principles, materials and methods; the initial evaluation on the curriculum in the end.This paper is intended to break through the calling for calligraphy courses and look forward to find some connections of them, then explore the balance between general writing lessons and calligraphy major courses, also try to reach the height of ancient calligraphy and prosperity. Thus can be further and develop calligraphy in the new era. The world's integration requires highly unity, but also calls for requirements of individual cultural and artistic exchanges among all countries. Calligraphy as Chinese most unique culture and arts is irreplaceable, and the reconstruction of calligraphy curriculum is a meaningful research, especially in basic stage.
