Andrew H. Plaks is a professor in both East Asia Department and Comparative Literature Department of Princeton University. Andrew H. Plaks'" Chinese Narrative " studies a long chapter in Chinese classical novels from the structure, rhetoric and other aspects, and puts forward a "qi style" as the core of narrative literary theory. For Chinese narrative literature, the study of Andrew H. Plaks'"Chinese narrative " not only has theoretical value, but also has enlightenment of search methods.This article is divided into three parts, including the sequence theory, the theory and conclusions.Preface mainly introduces the meaning and values, academic research of "Chinese Narrative ", as well as my research ideas.This theory analysises "Chinese Narrative "from three aspects of " episodic structure" and "unified structure" identified, "irony" and"qubi"identified, "Popular Literature" and "literati novel" identified:One, " episodic structure "and" unified structure "identified. Through researching the structure of"qi style", Andrew H. Plaks thinks that qi style approaches to the full text of architecture through "the structure of the main structure + texture", rather than the organic Structure Theory of"head,body, tail" that some Western scholars believe, so that it rectifies the one-sided theory that some Western scholars consider the narrative of ancient Chinese literature is " episodic structure".Second, "irony" and qubi identified. Andrew H. Plaks studies the rhetoric of a long chapter in Chinese classical novels from the view of ironic. The paper will have a further study on the relationship of irony and qubi basing on Andrew H. Plaks'study. Three, "Popular Literature" and "literati novel" debated. For a long chapter ,the nature of classical Chinese novel is generally believed the "popular literature." On the contrary, Andrew H. Plaks insistes his"literati novel" theory. This article will analysis this problem from both the differences of theliterature concept and writer's talent.The conclusions sum up the value and limitations and practical significance of Andrew H. Plaks'" Chinese Narrative ".
