Study On Transliterating English Personal Names Into Chinese In Classic Chinese Region

The thesis research and analyse by collecting and analysis the English personal names from four classic Chinese newspapers of Chinese Mainland Taiwan Hongkong and Singapore respectively for about half a year. Because there are lots of things which one English personal name has more than one Chinese translated names in Chinese news of those four classic Chinese regions and this situation easily cause comprehended mistakes for foreign students. The thesis focus on translated name of personal names' common and uniform signification difference and solution to research for the issue concerning on the process of international promotion of Chinese.In the first chapter ,the thesis intergrates researches from home and abroad and introduces some methods and principles about translated personal names and explains some related terms. In the second chapter, the research compares the common and different culture between English name and Chinese names and analyses from the order of name form, angle of view for taste, selective Chinese characters for gender. Etc. The third chapter gives some main factors on arousing the disunity of translated English personal names to Chinese names and compare the criterion and specialty of transliteration about those classic Chinese regions in detail. In the forth chapter, analyses the sound similarity , Chinese character for name, translation's style and so on between Chinese Mainland and other classic Chinese regions by comparison and analysis those collecting translated English names from four newspapers' electronic edition. In the fifth chapter, lists part corresponding translated Chinese names of those four regions.The main meanings consist on: l)Trying to find out the real factors which causes the differences in classic Chinese regions and the primary principles and methods of transliteration. 2)Discussing the existed differences between English name culture and Chinese name culture in intercultures communication. 3)Providing practical instruction for foreign students to eliminate misunderstanding by listing a correspondent table of English-Chinese names.
