Recently, television, which plays a significant role in children's life, has the precession rate as high as 99.3% in the households nationwide. From the motivation point of view, children watch TV programs for the purpose of entertainment. One of their favorites is cartoons, which include a number of exciting elements, such as vivid motion pictures, bright colors, euphonic sound effect and imaginations.However, what we have to think about is why the attraction from those imported cartoons is much more than local ones. In the paper, two Chinese cartoons and two cartoons from US are compared and analyzed in the aspects of color, sound, roles and features. Conclusion is obtained when combines with the discussion of psychology development of pre-school children:1. In the color aspect, a perfect visual effect is required in Chinese cartoons. However, American cartoons are more likely to present an easy, colorful environment in order to build a happy and comfortable setting.2. In the sound creation aspect, a lack of jocularity, humor and overacting occurs in Chinese cartoons. Expressions are depends on language statement but not special sound effect.3. In the design of cartoon roles, the absence of innovation is realized in Chinese cartoon industry, due to the conventional ideas that, cartoon, as an exemplum itself, is a good sermonic method to teach young children. Roles in cartoons are restricted by traditional thoughts. While American cartoons are more concentrating onto present lovely and humorous roles.Based on the theory of pre-school children psychological development and television attention, in this paper, the comparison between four cartoons are implemented verbally. The variances in the aspects of image color, sound effect and roles are discussed. Future study includes how to apply these achievements to cater for children's demands and how to inspirit our cartoon designers to improve and enhance the attraction of their works among the pre-school children.
