It is well accepted that it can improve the education by integrating multimedia technology into ELT.Many theoretical researches as well as practical experiments have been made in middle schools, universities and colleges. However, little research in secondary vocational schools(SVS) has been conducted. In SVS,the most obvious problem is that students vary in their English learning level, while the traditional classroom teaching with little interaction makes students lack initiative and enthusiasm and causes unsatisfactory teaching effects. This study aims to apply technology in English classroom to improve teaching effects considering the students' different needs in SVS.The author tries to probe into the accessible modes of integrating multimedia technology into ELT and put them into practice.Guided by the abundant teaching theories, such as the constructivist perspective, the student-centered,a teacher-guided task-oriented teaching mode is adopted.According to the teaching objectives of each unit, the author explores some modes of intensive reading, extensive reading, listening and speaking to bring interaction among the teacher, students, teaching contents and multimedia technology to produce positive effects. The study was conducted in two classes of computer specialty in Handan Industry School,a SVS.The two classes are equivalent groups, one of which is taken as experimental group and assigned to be taught by the new teaching modes by integrating multimedia technology into ELT,while the other class is as the control group and assigned to be taught by the traditional teaching modes. In this study, four instruments were used:a questionnaire, two tests and a subsequent interview will be conducted to collect data, which were analyzed through the software SPSS 11.5 later. The result of the study indicates that integrating multimedia technology into ELT in SVS can efficiently improve the teaching effectiveness. This new teaching mode has been demonstrated to be effective to resume students' confidence, stimulate their interests and initiative. The students would actively conduct their individualized learning and collaborative learning. In addition, such issues are also discussed as the teacher's roles, the students' activities, and the relation among the teacher, students and the computer in the application of the new teaching mode. Finally, the thesis gives some suggestions and implications for further research. |
