This paper mainly analyzes the residential pattern of blacks in American cities from 1960 to 1980, exposes the fact that the residential segregation of blacks is maintained during this period, and discusses the reason, indicates the absurdity of American moral values.The foreword analyses the meaning of this theme, traces the development of academic research about the residential condition of blacks in American cities, summarizes briefly the relevant research of domestic and foreign academic communities. The paper is made up of three parts: Part one is about the history background, introduces the experience and influence of blacks urbanization in America, generalizes the residential pattern of blacks in American cities before 1960s, mainly made of three phases; Part two describes the residential pattern of blacks in American cities from 1960 to 1980, highlights the residential segregation of blacks in American cities after Civil Rights Movement; Part three explains the reason of continued segregation, mainly in aspects of the development of ethnic relations between blacks and whites, two different residential preferences, race and poverty, the function of public policy, tries to expose the relation of residential segregation, race and poverty.The epilogue considers the problem of residential segregation, the resolvent of this problem should take measures from blacks and whites.
